Web Designer, Marketing Strategist and Founder of DIY Dream Site
Katy Boykin is a WordPress website designer, a marketing strategist, and the founder of DIY Dream Site, where her team builds custom WordPress websites for established companies and sells WordPress Themes, website templates and coaching for the people who would rather build their own.
They have built sites for hundreds of business owners, including Dash of Sanity, Making Sense of Cents and Garden Betty, local IT company FIRN Services, and a long list of churches and ministries, health practitioners and personal brands.
She is the former Senior Product Marketing Manager for Kadence WP, the popular theme and block-based page builder running on more than half a million WordPress sites. She also ran a Christian lifestyle blog of her own, which she founded in 2018 and sold in 2021.
When Katy is not working she is in her backyard vegetable garden or spending time with her family.
You can find her online on YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, WordPress.org and the DIY Dream Site blog.
Podcasts and speaking
I’m up for podcast interviews, YouTube video collabs, conference breakouts, workshops, and guest teaching inside a membership orcourse.
In addition to working one-on-one with hundreds of business owners to build their websites, I also I spent a year and a half doing product marketing at Kadence, which meant watching what worked across hundreds of thousands of websites. That’s a much wider view than one designer’s client list, and I lean on it constantly.
Speaking and podcast credits
Speak Up Conference
I’ve taught three breakout sessions for Christian writers and speakers about how to improve their websites since 2023. I was the platinum notebook sponsor in 2025, and I’ll be joining as an expert industry professional virtually again in 2027. We also built their website.
The Kadence Beat podcast
Former co-host with Ben Ritner, the founder of Kadence, covering Kadence and the WordPress product world during my time on the team.
Kadence’s start-to-finish website series on YouTube.
I wrote and presented How to Create a Website with Kadence, Start to Finish while I was on the Kadence team. Part one has over 36,000 views.
Kadence Amplify Virtual Conference, October 2023.
I was a guest expert at Kadence’s annual Amplify virtual conference before joining the team, with a session on crafting a homepage that connects and converts. I covered the two reasons a website exists at all, then the nine ingredients a home page needs to turn a passive visitor into a reader or a customer. It’s still the talk I’ve given the most.
The Breakthrough Brand Podcast, episode 182, October 2022.
Elizabeth McCravy hosts a business podcast for designers and online business owners building around a family, and she had me on to talk about quitting my job with no plan B, the career pivots that came before design, imposter syndrome, and selling the blog. I was a beta member of her Booked Out Designer program early in my freelance career, so the episode ran as one of her success stories.
