WordPress Website Design Services for Small Businesses and Content Creators

Your business has grown. It’s time your website caught up.

DIY Dream Site provides WordPress website design services for small businesses and content creators. We build WordPress websites that generate leads, make sales, and keep working even when you’re not.

Start your project View Our Work

Trusted by creators and business owners you know:

A bad website isn’t just embarrassing. It’s costing you.

When someone lands on your site and can’t figure out what you do in five seconds, they leave. When your design looks three years out of date, they question your credibility. When your page speed crawls, Google notices.

You’ve probably already tried to fix it. Bought the theme. Watched the tutorials. Maybe hired someone who disappeared for six weeks and came back with something that looked nothing like what you discussed.

The problem isn’t you. It’s that building a website that actually converts takes a very specific combination of design, strategy, and technical skill. Most designers have one. We have all three.

We’ve built 100+ websites for people exactly like you.

DIY Dream Site is a boutique WordPress website design agency led by Katy Boykin, former Senior Product Marketing Manager at KadenceWP. We work with small business owners, service providers, course creators, authors, speakers, coaches, bloggers, YouTubers and more who need a website that looks as good as what they’ve built.

We’re website designers and developers. We build on WordPress using Kadence or Elementor. Every site we launch includes speed optimization, SEO foundations, and a private training session so you actually know how to use it.

fter launch, the same team can keep working on your site with hosting and care, monthly SEO, and content.

“We spoke to a few others, and they were either designers OR developers. Katy and her team offered both. This is very rare.”
~ Alison Johnson, Where Can I Live

more about the team

Moving from a website you built yourself to one we build for you

A lot of the sites we redesign were built by their owners, often starting from a theme. Those sites worked until the business outgrew them and upkeep started taking more time than it saved. DIY Dream Site started by selling WordPress themes to people building their own sites, and we still do. When you’re ready to stop being your own web designer, we already understand what you built and why.

Your content comes with you

Your content and posts move to the new site. We keep your URLs the same where we can and redirect the ones that change, so search engines keep sending people to the right pages. We look at what’s converting before we change it.

Your site stays live

Your current site keeps running while we build the new one on staging, and the switch happens in a launch window we plan together.

You can run it yourself

We build on the WordPress block editor and walk you through it in a private training session, so you can run the site without calling us for every change.

Two ways to work with us

Semi-Custom Website Design

Think of this as a renovation, not just a paint job.

We start with one of our professionally designed DIY Dream Site themes as the foundation, then transform every page around your content, your message, and how you want visitors to move through your site. Some sections stay close to the demo. Others get rearranged, rebuilt, or reimagined entirely. The finished site feels like it was made for you from scratch, because every page was shaped around you. This is not a color swap and a logo drop-in. Every page is shaped around your copy flow so it moves people toward action.

Perfect for:

  • Creators and businesses who are ready to look more professional
  • Serious businesses launching their first real website
  • Anyone who wants a beautiful, strategic result without the timeline of a full custom build

Timeline: 2 to 4 weeks | Flexible payment plans available

What’s included:

  • Homepage + 7 interior pages (additional pages available)
  • Blog design
  • Copy Brainstorm Session (45 minutes)
  • Strategy Kick-Off Call (60 minutes)
  • Everything in the “Every project includes” section below

Starting at $4,500+

Custom Website Design

Think of this as a new build, not a renovation.

We start with a blank canvas and design every single page from scratch around your brand, your audience, and what you need your site to actually do. No existing structure to work around or no demo to reference. Just your vision, built out completely. This is not an adaptation of something that already exists. The result is a site that could only ever belong to you.

Perfect for:

  • Established businesses ready to take their online presence to the next level
  • Brands with specific features, user flows, or content requirements
  • Anyone who wants full creative freedom and a site that has never existed before

Timeline: 4 to 8 weeks | Flexible payment plans available

What’s included:

  • Homepage + 7 interior pages (additional pages available)
  • Blog design
  • Copy Brainstorm Session (90 minutes)
  • Strategy Kick-Off Call (90 minutes)
  • Everything in the “Every project includes” section below

Starting at $7,500

What affects your price

Both packages start with a homepage and seven interior pages. If your site needs more than that, your proposal shows what was added and why before you sign.

More Pages

custom web design multiple pages

We quote from the sitemap we plan together, so the price reflects the pages your site needs.

Blog migration

If you have a lot of existing posts, moving them over and organizing them into categories is priced by the number of posts.

Extra functionality

A shop, membership area, online course, event calendar, or booking system is scoped and quoted separately.

Copywriting, monthly SEO, email marketing setup, and care plans are add-ons with their own pricing, listed below.

Every Project Includes

Design and Development

We design and build directly in the browser, so design and development happen at the same time. Whether we’re building with Kadence or Elementor, every site is set up so you can manage and update it on your own after launch without ever needing to hire someone just to make a simple change.

SEO Foundation

On-page SEO is baked into the build. Every site launches with page titles, proper heading hierarchy, meta descriptions all in place before your site ever goes live.

Speed Optimization

After launch, we optimize the technical side of your build for Core Web Vitals so your site loads fast, ranks better, and keeps visitors from bouncing.

Private Training Session

A 60-minute one-on-one walkthrough so you know how to manage your own site after launch. We teach you what you actually need to know.

2 Weeks Post-Launch Support

Got a question after launch? We include 2 weeks of post-launch support for bugs, questions, and any extra training you need.

Client Portal

As soon as you book, we’ll set up your private project portal with your homework and a direct line to our team.

Promotional Launch Graphics

We design a set of launch graphics so you’re ready to announce your new site on social media the moment it goes live.

Add-ons to build on your foundation

Our design projects give you a beautiful, fast, technically solid website. These services take it further, during the build or after launch, with the same team handling all of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Start your project

How much does a WordPress website design cost?

Our Semi-Custom Website Design starts at $4,500 and our Custom Website Design starts at $7,500. Final pricing depends on the number of pages, the functionality your site requires, and any add-on services. A membership site, an eCommerce shop, or a large blog migration will each affect the scope differently. We provide a detailed proposal before any commitment is made.

Add-ons like website copywriting (starting at $2,000), monthly SEO services (starting at $900/mo), email marketing setup (starting at $500), and care plans (starting at $79/mo) are available separately.

What is included in a WordPress website design project?

Every project includes full design and development by the same team, a WordPress theme build using Kadence or Elementor, professional speed optimization, on-page SEO (page titles, proper heading hierarchy, meta descriptions), a private staging environment, a 60-minute one-on-one training session after launch, two weeks of post-launch support, and project management through your client portal from the moment you book.

How long does it take to build a WordPress website?

Semi-Custom Website Design projects typically take 2 to 4 weeks from kickoff to launch. Custom Website Design projects typically take 4 to 8 weeks. Timeline depends on project scope and how quickly clients complete their pre-project homework (content, images, and brand questionnaire). We give you a projected timeline in your proposal.

What is the difference between Semi-Custom and Custom website design?

The Semi-Custom service starts with one of our existing DIY Dream Site themes as the foundation and transforms it around your brand and content. Think of it like a renovation versus a new build. Some elements from the demo site may stay similar, but every page gets shaped around your copy flow, your audience, and how you want visitors to move through your site. The result fits like a tailor-made dress, not an off-the-rack template.

The Semi-Custom service starts with one of our existing DIY Dream Site themes as the foundation and transforms it around your brand and content. Think of it like a renovation versus a new build. The result fits like a tailor-made dress, not an off-the-rack template.

What page builder do you use to build WordPress websites?

We build on WordPress using either Kadence or Elementor, depending on your project. Kadence is our default recommendation for most clients because it’s lightweight, fast-loading, and works with the native WordPress block editor, which makes it easier for you to manage after launch. For clients who need specific functionality or already have an existing Elementor site, we build with Elementor Pro. We’ll recommend the best fit during your discovery call based on your goals, your content, and how hands-on you want to be after launch.

Do you do the design and the development, or do you hand off to someone else?

The person designing your site is also the person building it. There is no handoff between a designer and a separate developer. This matters because what you approve in the design stage is exactly what gets built, with no surprises, no “the theme won’t do that,” and no scope creep from miscommunication between two different people.

Will my current website stay live during the redesign?

Yes. We build on a private staging environment the entire time. Your current site stays live and fully functional while we work. We only switch over during a planned launch window that we coordinate with you, and the downtime is minimal.

I’m already making sales. What if a redesign breaks what’s working?

This is the most common concern we hear from established creators and online business owners, and it’s completely valid. Our approach is to redesign around what’s already working. We study your existing funnel, preserve what matters, and only upgrade what’s holding you back. Any structural changes (opt-in forms, checkout links, redirect paths) are tested carefully on staging before they ever touch your live site.

We also preserve your existing URL structure so you don’t launch into an SEO nightmare. If any URLs do need to change, we set up proper redirects before your site goes live.

I’ve hired a designer before and it was a disaster. How is this different?

We hear some version of this more than you’d think. A designer seemed like a great fit, work got started, and then communication dropped off. Deadlines came and went without updates, and what eventually got delivered didn’t match what was promised. Some projects never finished at all.

What’s different about how we work is that you have visibility into your project from the moment you book. Every stage has a clear deliverable, your feedback is part of the process at every step, and we communicate consistently from kickoff to launch.

Our clients consistently tell us that our organization and systems are one of the things that stands out most. As Lauren put it after her discovery call: “I love how organized you are and how everything has a process. That soothes my soul.”

Erica Gellerman of The Hawaii Vacation Guide said it best: “She does exactly what she says she’s going to do. After being disappointed in the past by a designer, working with Katy was such a dream.”

I’m not technical at all. Is that okay?

Completely. A lot of our clients describe themselves as non-technical. We handle all the technical pieces (hosting setup, plugin configuration, performance, security, redirects, integrations) so you never have to think about any of it. After launch, we walk you through your site in a private training session so you can handle day-to-day updates without calling a developer every time you want to change a headline.

Do you offer SEO services?

On-page SEO is built into every website we design: page titles, proper heading hierarchy, meta descriptions. For clients who want to go deeper, we offer Monthly SEO Services as an add-on after your project launches. This includes ongoing keyword research, content strategy, link building, and monthly reporting.

Do you offer copywriting?

Yes, as an add-on. Many clients provide their own content and we give them guidance on what to write. Others prefer to hand the writing over entirely. Our copywriting process includes a brand interview, YouTube transcript or existing content review, and copy written in your voice using proven frameworks. Starting at $2,000.

Do you help with email marketing?

Yes, as an add-on. We can fully set up your email platform including opt-in forms, list organization, automations, and welcome sequences. We work with Kit (formerly ConvertKit), Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, SureContact, and MailerLite.

Do you offer website care and maintenance after launch?

Yes, for websites we’ve built, are building, or are taking over. Before a care plan starts, we review how your site is set up, so we know which plugins and settings each update touches. Care plans include daily backups, weekly WordPress core and plugin updates, uptime monitoring, and monthly reports. Hosting can be included or you can opt for a care-only plan if you’re already with a host we recommend.

Can you migrate my existing content to a new WordPress site?

Yes. We handle migrations from Squarespace, Wix, and existing WordPress installs. Blog migration is typically scoped and priced separately based on the number of posts. We’ll include migration details in your proposal.

Can you work with my existing WordPress website, or do you start from scratch?

Both. We specialize in redesigns for established businesses and can work with your existing WordPress install if it makes sense for your project. We give you an honest recommendation after learning more about where your current site stands.

How do I move from a DIY website to a professionally designed one?

Start with the project inquiry form and we’ll look at what you’ve built. From there it’s a discovery call, a proposal with the scope and timeline, then a kickoff where we collect your content and brand assets. We build the new site on a private staging environment while your current site keeps running. We keep your URLs the same where we can and redirect the ones that change, so search engines keep sending people to the right pages. Most people move over in 2 to 4 weeks on a Semi-Custom project.

I built my website myself. Do I have to start over from nothing?

No. Your content and blog posts move to the new site. We keep your URLs the same where we can. Where one has to change, we set up the redirect before launch so search engines keep sending people to the right page. We look at what’s already converting before we change anything, and then we rebuild the design, the page structure, and the path visitors take to contact you or buy.

Do you work with local businesses?

Yes. We’re based in Fort Worth and work with local service businesses across Fort Worth, Frisco, and the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as with local businesses anywhere in the US. We design websites for local service-based businesses, healthcare practices, legal offices, and specialty retailers in addition to content creators and personal brands. If you want to show up in Google Maps and local search results, our website design and SEO services work together to build that foundation.

What happens after my site launches?

You get two full weeks of post-launch support included. Any bugs, questions, additional training, or weird things that come up are all covered. We also include a private 60 to 90 minute training session so you walk away knowing how to manage your own site. After those two weeks, we offer ongoing hourly support exclusively for past clients. You just have to ask.

Where is DIY Dream Site located?

We’re based in Fort Worth, Texas, but all client work is handled entirely remotely. We work with clients across the United States and internationally, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, South Africa, and more.

How does DIY Dream Site compare to a freelance web designer?

A freelance designer can be a great option, especially if you have a smaller budget and need something clean and simple. But most freelancers specialize in one thing: design. What you get back might look beautiful, and still load slowly, rank nowhere in Google, and have no clear strategy for moving visitors toward action. The backend matters as much as the frontend, and not every designer knows how to build one properly.

What’s different here is that design is only one piece of what we bring to your project. Our team also understands SEO, copywriting strategy, and how to build a site that performs technically. You’re not just getting a pretty website. You’re getting one that’s built to work.

How does DIY Dream Site compare to a large web design agency?

A larger agency can offer a lot of the same capabilities, but you’re also paying for their overhead. That typically means higher costs, more layers between you and the people actually doing the work, and processes built for volume rather than your specific business. It’s not uncommon to sign with a big agency and find yourself working through account managers who relay your feedback to a designer you never speak to directly.

At DIY Dream Site, you work directly with the people building your site, not a layer of account managers between you and them.

Is a DIY Dream Site project a good investment for my business?

That depends on where your business is and what you need your website to do. If you’re just starting out and need something simple to get online, our DIY WordPress themes might be a better starting point. You can get a professionally designed theme, follow our step-by-step tutorials, and launch on your own budget.

But if you’re running a real business, generating revenue, and your website isn’t keeping up with where you are, the cost of staying where you are is higher than the cost of fixing it. Our clients consistently tell us they wish they had made this investment sooner. A website that brings in the right clients, ranks in search, and reflects the quality of your work pays for itself.

Is there a deposit required to book?

Yes. To secure your spot on our project calendar, a deposit is required when you sign your website design agreement. The remaining balance is broken into payments tied to project milestones. We’ll outline the full payment schedule in your proposal so you know exactly what to expect before committing.

How far out are you booked?

Our projects typically book 3 to 12 weeks in advance. If you have a specific launch date in mind, the earlier you reach out the better. Fill out our inquiry form and we’ll let you know our current availability.

Are there any extra fees or expenses I should know about?

Your proposal will include a full breakdown of everything covered in your project. Outside of the project investment, there are a few third-party costs to be aware of: WordPress hosting, your domain name, and any premium plugins required for your specific functionality. We’ll flag anything relevant to your project during the discovery call so there are no surprises.

What do I need to have ready before we start?

Before kickoff, you’ll complete our brand questionnaire, gather your brand assets (logo, fonts, colors, photos), and provide the copy for each page. We’ll give you a clear homework checklist and a content template for every page so you know exactly what’s needed. If you’d rather hand the writing off entirely, our copywriting add-on is available. The more prepared you are going in, the smoother and faster the project goes.

Are there other ways to work with DIY Dream Site?

Yes. If a full custom website design project isn’t the right fit right now, there are a few other ways to work with us. Our DIY WordPress themes start at $219 and come with step-by-step tutorials so you can build your own site on a budget. Site Success Academy is our monthly membership for content creators and small business owners who want ongoing support, templates, and training. And if you just need a few things fixed or updated on an existing site, reach out and we’ll let you know if we can help.

How do I get started?

Fill out our project inquiry form and tell us a little about your business and goals. We review every inquiry personally. If your project sounds like a good fit, we’ll invite you to a discovery call to get to know each other. From there, we’ll send a detailed proposal with timeline, scope, and pricing. No commitment until you’re ready.
